My first advent fair

Hi Reader!

This was actually the first fair of my life. My friend Zsófi pitched the idea: Hellopiac was organizing an Advent fair on the first three Sundays, in the Klauzál square market hall and she suggested we should go. At first, I was a bit skeptical and quite nervous. I had to stand there and sell my own stuff — ahhh, I didn’t know if I could do it. I didn’t really feel like it, and I had never done anything like this before. But then I thought: it’s only three Sundays…

In the end, I convinced myself. It was something new, and it could be interesting. Don’t be a ***sy. So I started preparing. I searched the internet to see what a printmaker’s booth should look like. Finally, I decided to bring my framed prints to the fair. I had to build stands for the framed pictures, and I used my softbox stands to hang some of them. A few prints were laid out on the table. Yeah, it was going to look cool — nothing too complicated.

Zsófi makes glass bead jewelry using Japanese and Czech glass beads. She had a lot of textile materials, so she brought everything we needed for the booth — thank you for that! Before the first Sunday, we even held a rehearsal. We already knew the size of the tables, so we tried out how to arrange our merchandise. Everything was set, all the items were prepared and packed. Let’s go!

First sunday (2025.11.30.)

Everything went smoothly, really. We unpacked the stuff from the car, I found a parking spot just around the corner, and we set up the display. It only took about 30 minutes. That was the easy part — then came the unknown. Talking strangers.

To my surprise, everything went well for me. A lot of people stopped by our stand, and I started conversations with almost everyone. I asked them questions like:
“Do you know what these are?”
“Do you know this technique?”

And I really enjoyed talking about the technique and explaining the whole process.

To my surprise, everyone liked the prints, but sometimes they didn’t quite know how to place what they were seeing. I don’t blame them — after all, this was an Advent fair, and my works don’t really fit the classic Christmas aesthetic. Maybe that’s exactly why there was so much interest.

Time flew by all day; from 9 to 5 it felt like a blink. Zsófi’s boyfriend, Wagi (who is also my best friend), brought us the best lunch. It was a bit cold, even though we were in a closed building, so the hot soup and the baked baguette were especially welcome.

Second Sunday (2025.12.07.)

Basically, it was the same as the first time, just with much more routine. We got the same spot as before, upstairs. We changed the booth setup a little: Zsófi was on the right side (director’s left), and I was on the left (director’s right).

I experienced the same thing as the first time — I could see it on people’s faces: What is this? And just like before, I told them everything about it 🙂

There was one man who became my first buyer that day. He had seen my Instagram story about the fair and was already following my account. That’s why he came — he wanted my linoprints. That felt really good. Thank you from here as well; I hope you enjoy your prints!

Lunch was the same too: Wagi brought us warm soup and a baguette again from Bors GasztroBár. We spent the whole day talking with people, and once again, time flew by just as fast.

Third Sunday (2025.12.14.)

We applied for this day later, but luckily the HelloPiac team was able to squeeze in a spot for us. With all the changes, we ended up on the ground floor — and as it turned out, there were many more people there than upstairs. Because of that, the number of visitors and interested people suddenly jumped.

We had a few hiccups in the morning, but we got everything under control very quickly, and after that everything went smoothly. Unfortunately, one of my pictures didn’t survive the morning trip and the glass in the frame broke. Despite that, the day went well. Wagi was out of town , so we asked my wonderful wife to bring us food :) Spoiler , she did!

It was a bit colder downstairs than upstairs, but otherwise everything went the same way as before 🙂 Good vibes, lots of interested people, many compliments — and many prints found new homes.

Summary

This whole fair thing wasn’t even on my radar, but I’m really glad I opened up to it. I had a great time and discovered a completely new side of myself.

I would also like to thank Zsófi for the idea and for giving me the opportunity to gain such a new experience; Wagi and my wife for the food deliveries and their support; and of course everyone who took a print home and supported my art in one way or another 🙂

I’d also like to thank the Hello Market team for the excellent organization.

In 2026, I will definitely register on time for all three Sundays 🙂

PS: I hope you enjoyed the blog. The next post about my latest linoprint is coming soon.
